This was the talk for a while, Jason had introduced me to Moss Icon and he would always carry on about this side project of theirs called Breathing Walker. He would talk about it, lament it;s existence and how he had never heard it, only of it. He just wouldn't shut up about it. i was content listening to the Lyburnum LP as long as i needed too, it was enough for me, i mean how could anything be better? A few months passed and he was offered a chance to roadie for Brother Inferior while they toured the U.S. with Whorehouse of Representatives. finally a break from hearing about that goddamn record, it would be a nice reprieve. The month passed a little quickly, but Jason was back and he said he had a surprise. He opened up his bag and dumped out maybe fifteen dubbed cassettes of stuff he had taped off people. but out of all of them he pulled up one specific i have to listen to, the catch was he wouldn't tell me what it was. He popped it in and we listened. It sounded like Moss Icon, but not as caustic, was it the singer's new band? what the fuck was i listening to? He smiled and said "Breathing Walker". After all those months of hearing him ramble about this long lost recording and the two of us were listening to it. I was floored. Breathing Walker were an extension of Moss Icon, a side note in the middle of their career. the addition of three musicians taking the rough hewn edges of Moss Icon proper and smoothing them out. Tonie Joy's guitar enhanced by the subtleties of violin strings wrapping around the sinewy tones. Each song playing out as a solemn hymn, Jon Vance almost in a trance like state delivering the uplifting thoughts to the masses. the music builds and crashes like waves around your feet. there is something spiritual about this recording, something evoking true feelings from within. Of the six songs, two are original songs for the album written specifically as Breathing Walker, two songs were from Moss Icon but the arrangements completely different, and finally two tracks live. An indispensable piece for any collection.
