They only got the Media's attention beacause they were created by the Media, but I agree that they are a gate way band. People say Green Day and Blink-182 are Gate way bands, but I don't see how. Alot of people that listen to The Sex Pistols like The Ramones, Buzz-cocks, Misfits, Crass, Dead Kennedy's, and other good bands. Most people that link blink-182 are trend Fags.

Nirvana didn't really open up the Gateway for grunge. Sound-garden Signed to the first major label and had a bigger following for alot more years than Nirvana. Of course Nirvana made trendy radio music, and became more successful than the once meaningful Seattle underground specialty......Nirvana is a overrated piece of shit.

They weren't really created by the media necessarily, they were more of a typical boy band that music giants love to manufacture, except this one was formed by McLaren. I think they got so much attention because there had been nothing like it before at the time in the UK, and also because of Lydon's attitude. They were just popular because of the 'shock value'.

Yeah I agree, I don't see how they are 'gateway' bands either. Also, no homophobic slurs please.

Most Boy Bands are created by Giant Record Companies(A.K.A Media...), but This was sort-of different. This was made by a guy who capitalized on the look of a poor musician(A.K.A Richard Hell/Legs McNeil). After the guy capitalized on them, Those Music Giants took advantage of it and signed them to Universal(I think, but might of been something bigger). They weren't necessarily popular beacause the music was good, but beacause they had that "Shock Value". Then people started Purposely ripping clothes and randomly putting Safety Pins in them. I never understood what was punk and what isn't. There is no point in even talking about it, beacause someone is bound to have Different views from you on the subject.

Post  Re: what do you think about the clash and sex pistols ?

@Rosie Lol, I never listened to punk as a kid. I was going home from school with my Aunt, beacause I broke 4 of my fingers playing Basketball(Short and skinny Girl vs Mens Gym Teacher). I was in 6th grade I think.....My Aunt went into the school to go get her purse, and I was in her car. The guy next to me was Listening to Streetlight Manifesto. After that Ska grew on me, and I would spend hours learning Reel Big Fish and The Specials songs. Then in 7th grade I was on a Train downtown, and I saw some Nasty Crust Punk with a "STAR FUCKING HIPSTERS" Backpatch. So then I looked them up and started listening to Stza, Streetlight Manifesto, and The Angry Samoans. By 8th I wanted to work in the Music Industry, and I figured out that I could work with Local bands. So in the ending of summer Stza Crack played a show, and I went over. I ended up going their early, and I talked to him for about a Hour and helped do his sound-check. I ended up Helping him at his next 3 shows. Then I randomly came on here and asked you'll for good bands, and Now I'm in fucking love with GBH, R.K.L, Subhumans, Crass, and A few others(Vice Squad, Ramones, Etc.). I guess breaking my Hand/Fingers was the best thing that happened to me.

@CrustGrrrl wow i guess it was a good thing to happen to ya in the long run lol so are you in 9th grade or summit ? i think over here that would be year 9 so in year 9 i was 14 - 15 . but i dint get into underground stuff until i was 13 after seeing rancid . i didnt really get into ska until i was 15 or 16 i got into the specials , the selecter , madness i prefer two tone ska some 3rd wave stuff is ok like mighty mighty bosstones , less than jake , goldfinger and rancid did some ska stuff . but when i listen to it it is mainly two tone although some original ska like toots and the maytals and desmond decker is good an all :-)

Lol. I'm like in 11th grade. I skipped a year, but I also failed one. So it kind of fucked up my original school plans. I didn't get into the underground for like 4 years. I think it was when I saw Star fucking Hipsters, That lead me on to Crust Punk, Ska, Acid Punk, and other stuff.

11th grade... isn't that like Year 11 over here? Which would make her 16, or possibly 17 depending on what month she was born. I fucking hated school. Haha going a bit off topic now :-/ Could make a new topic about school or something? It's pretty dead around here lol.

You gonna do a review on Rebellion Festival Rosie punx?
